Day 17: Wishing for a Washing

The animals in the next farm book enjoy taking a bath as much as my G does. In case you didn’t read into my momma-sarcasm (smile) I better say: Bath time negotiations continue in the D household these days.

In Joy Cowley’s book entitled Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm a barnyard trio run away to the city due to the detested baths in an old tin tub.

Wishy-washy. Wishy-washy.
“Quack!” the duck moans.
“I’ve got suds in my feathers
and aches in my bones.”

The author repeats the words “wishy-washy” throughout the book.  Phonetically this phrase is not something a toddler hears often, and I can tell G likes the way the words sound. Illustrator Elizabeth Fuller draws the farm-owning Mrs. Wishy Washy with a bandana wrapped around her hair and bright pink cheeks.  The details on most pages encourage labeling and also the reasons why baths are fun.  Bubbles.  Water.  A dirty cow.  “Are you ready for a bath?” I ask G.

Once we actually get G into the bathtub these days, then the negotiations begin for our exit.  Something tells me G secretly thinks baths are fun.

What are you reading your little one after bath time tonight?
